Distinguished Speaker Series continues with a renowned author and political analyst Baabar.
On Thursday, January 22, 2015, the first distinguished speaker of this year is a renowned author and political analyst B. Batbayar, who gained fame as Baabar, was born in 1954 in Arkhangai province of Mongolia. He studied at the National University of Mongolia, University of Krakow in Poland, Moscow State University, and Imperial College of London. Baabar worked at the Microbiological Research and Production Center as a Researcher in 1981-1991 until he became the Leader of the Mongolian Social Democratic Party. He resigned as the Leader of the Mongolian Social Democratic Party in 1994. Baabar was elected to the State Great Hural of Mongolia in 1996. In 1998, he was Minister for Finance. After being defeated at the 2004 Parliamentary election, he worked as Foreign Policy Advisor to Prime Minister in 2004-2005.Since 2006, he has been running Nepko Publishing Company. In 2009, he was awarded with the State Awards of Mongolia for History of Mongolia.
Distinguished Speaker Series was organized under Q&A format and many alumni attended. People asked questions about Mongolian democracy, present economy situation and near of the future. Mr. Batbayar shared his sight and experience by answering questions.
The Lecture Series organized under auspices of the “The Nurturing Alumni through Substantive Engagement” project funded by the US Embassy in Mongolia, with themes in democracy and human rights, business and corporate social responsibility, and health and the environment.
