Live Video Webchat with Grant Writing Expert Derek Jentzsch 
State Alumni will host a global video webchat on the subject of grant writing on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 8:30 a.m. EDT.  The webchat will feature Derek Jentzsch, an expert with nearly 20 years of professional experience developing, funding, and managing community-based and international programs.  Jentzsch will talk with alumni about how to develop a high quality, competitive grant proposals.  Alumni are invited to ask questions and watch the event on the State Alumni website. Non- alumni may watch it on the CO.NX website. Priority will be given to alumni who have previously competed for the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund (AEIF) in 2011 or 2012.

Rwandan Access Alumni Win the First Annual Embassy–State Alumni Basketball Tournament 
State Alumni and The U.S. Embassy in Kigali recently organized their first annual basketball tournament.  The tournament brought together two State Alumni teams and three teams of embassy staff to compete for the tournament title. The first team of alumni was made up of alumni from the English Access Microscholarship Program while the second was formed by alumni of all other programs including Fulbright, International Visitor Leadership Program, Youth Leadership and E-teacher programs.  In the official opening, the Acting Public Affairs Officer, Melanie Edwards, thanked all players and welcomed the alumni and embassy staff who came to cheer for their teams.  Following a series of preliminary and semi-final matches, the Access Alumni emerged undefeated as the tournament champions. Anders Fogh Rasmussen (IVLP 1982), 12th Secretary General of NATO and former Prime Minister of Denmark.

Danish IVLP Alumnus and NATO Secretary General to Speak at NCIV Conference in Springfield, Illinois
On September 21, 2012 Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the 12th Secretary General of NATO and a Danish alumnus of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) will offer the keynote address at the 50th anniversary celebration of Springfield, Illinois’s Commission on International Visitors.  Anders Fogh Rasmussen has served as NATO’s Secretary General since 2009. Prior to this position, he served as the Prime Minister of Denmark from 2001 to 2009 and was the leader of the Danish Venstre Party. Springfield Mayor Mike Houston has said about the visit, “We are honored to welcome the secretary general, and we look forward to hearing his remarks about how his participation in the International Visitor Leadership Program shaped his political outlook and career.” Read more>

Pakistan Alumni Reunion 2012
More than 550 alumni members of the Islamabad/Rawalpindi Pakistan-U.S. Alumni Network (PUAN) gathered on August 24, 2012to celebrate their 2012 accomplishments, welcome new alumni members and generate excitement about upcoming events. Over the past year, PUAN alumni have, among other things, initiated an alumni mentorship program, hosted a youth leadership institute, and held micro-entrepreneurship training for women. Read more>


State Alumni Member of the Month, Grace Ihejiamaizu.

Grace Ihejiamaizu, a Nigerian alumna of the 2010 Study of the United States Institute for Student Leaders (SUSI) program on the theme of Social Entrepreneurship, is the September State Alumni Member of the Month. This honor recognizes Grace’s leadership in developing the next generation of Nigerian leaders and entrepreneurs. Read more>
